sofa switch up

7 Nov

What up peeps!

Hope you had a good weekend. Mine was pretty relaxing, we had planned to build the bookcase but the weather just wasn’t on our side.

So I had a little fun switching up the sofa.

After many nights of complaining and groans from the husband of the back cushions being uncomfortable, I thought hey why don’t I just remove them and replace with a bunch of throw pillows.

obviously I’m not going to leave it like this. But I just wanted to get an idea, so I ran around the house like a crazy person grabbing all the throw pillows I could find.

It was actually surprisingly comfortable and I’m kind of loving the relaxed look it gives off. The bonus was right when the husband sat down he was in complete heaven. brownie points for me!

The nice thing is I can always switch back to the standard cushions if I get sick of it, which will most likely happen in 6 months.

On Sunday I ran over to PB to grab some larger pillows to get a better feel of the layout. Here it is with four 26” and two 16×26” pillows. Much better on the scale, but I want to try one more option of two 26”, two 24” and one 16×26”.

Also, I had to return the down pillows from PB because they were just too thin. Does anyone know where I can find overstuffed down pillow inserts? I really would like to find some that keep there shape as much as possible.

Anyway enough pillow talk.

Have you thought about removing your back cushions to give your sofa a new look? Did you love or hate it?

My rug addiction continues…

1 Jun

I always thought the scale of the Moorish Rug seemed off. It just made the room seem a million times smaller, and since our living room is already small I definitely didn’t want to give the illusion of being even smaller.

You get me, right? So you’d understand if I bought ANOTHER rug, right? Well luckily my husband knows me very well and has become accustomed to my buying and returning shopping habit.

So with his blessing, I purchased this 8 x 10 trellis rug from Overstock. After I measured the room, I really felt like 8 x 10 would be a perfect fit!

I think it makes a huge difference! Wouldn’t you agree?

It’s ridiculously soft and plushy.

Oh and in case you forgot this is what the room used to look like before.

Apothecary Chest

3 May

Picked up this cute little chest while shopping for our Etsy shop. It’s actually really hard not to keep everything we get.

I really love how it fits so perfectly in this little corner and looks stunning next to our painting by Colin.

Hope you love it as much as I do. I’m pretty much obsessed!

Happy Yellow

2 May

So I’m not sure if I mentioned but I won the eBay rug I was bidding on! Yay!

I’m sure you are all familar with this rug because it was a huge hit when Pottery Barn launched it but also a huge outrage once they discontinued it. Damn you!

Well, I had been scouring eBay hoping to find it again and one lucky day I hit the jack pot!

Here it is in all it’s glory!

Don’t you think the yellow just pops! Every time I walk in the room now it just screams Happy Yellow!

Now the plan is to keep it clean, unfortunately my dogs are obsessed with area rugs and have already fallen in love with Miss Yellow. I had it professionally cleaned right when I got it, but I fear more cleaning will be needed in the future. If anyone has any good daily cleaning remedies for a wool rug, I’m all ears!

Our Pretty Blue Door

27 Apr

Well we he did it!

Our front door is now a pretty gray blue! Isn’t it gorgeous! I’m in love.

In case you forgot this is what our door used to look like, kind of orangey and scratched to all hell, courtesy of Sarge our pug.

And here’s how it all went down…

First step! Sanding!

We had the primer tinted to our color, which is key.

Then we puttied any imperfections.

This stuff is bad ass and drys super fast!

Next up! Sanding again! Woah we did a lot of sanding.

PAINT TIME!

We chose Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Gray at150%

After another good sanding, Ryan finally sprayed the finish coat. Look at my man in action.

We even did the interior side blue, I think it totally brightens up the room.

Don’t you?

Next up I want to get a retractable screen door (Thanks Jessica for the recommendation!!), update the door hardware and add a cute door knocker.

Hopefully my bank account will recover soon so I can make some purchases!

Blue Lamp Major Steal

26 Apr

Yippy! My blue lamp from Kirkland’s arrived!

I absolutely love it and for $30 bucks it was a definite STEAL!

Get em’ while they last!

Bad Dog

21 Apr

So here’s a little back story, we got Sarge (the pug) when he was a puppy after about a month of living in our new place. He was my birthday present from my honey. I love him to death! We didn’t really think about not letting him up on the furniture or on our bed to sleep. He was part of the family as far as I was concerned.

Well after many months of sleepness nights about 2 years ago we decided to move him out of the bed and into the living room at nights. I envy people who can sleep with all their doggies. They must not snore, obsessively lick,  pant heavily, or go in out of the covers 50 million times!!

So long story short, Sarge moved his sleeping area to our sofa, we always had piece of crap sofas so I didn’t really think about it much. Until we got Mr. Whitey (our new sofa) and now he is basically forbidden. I feel bad, but it’s honestly for the best. I mean who wants to go over to someones house and sit on a furry stinky dog sofa. Eww.

Unfortunatley its very hard to train a dog when you’re SLEEPING! What do I do!? Ugh, well for starters I’ve been training him not to get on the sofa at all while I’m around. When I leave or go to sleep I’ve resorted to putting a blanket over the whole sofa, just in case the stinker gets up there.

And this is what I wake up to every morning

Well at least he lays on the blanket!

How can you yell at this cute face?

I do have to mention that Bronx was always trained to be off furniture. He is such a good boy and always sleeps in his bed. Sometimes he does get jealous of his brother and tries to crawl up. Stinker!

If anyone has any good ides for training a dog not to sleep on the couch, I’m ALL EARS!
