the bookcase reveal

9 Dec

Yep! That’s right! We finished the bookcase, you know the one I scored for $60 off craigslist.

it was pretty ugly but I saw past that and really liked the “parsons” feel it was giving off. It’s also extremely sturdy and quite heavy, which is great because I can’t stand flimsy particle board furniture.

So with a little paint love from the husband and a little decorating from me, I’m now pretty much obsessed with this baby.

I love that I finally have a place to display some of my books and knick knacks. I picked up this white frame from Home Goods recently and I filled my ikat bowl from Anthropologie with seashells we collected in Costa Rica on our honeymoon.

Drink time!

I picked up this decanter for my husband for all his hard work, he loves a good glass of scotch once in awhile.

and of course you can’t have a manly drink of scotch without a sparkly gold glass to hold it in.

Adore.

You might remember from the previous post that I had planned to add a dark gray back and possibly some O’verlays to the sides. But for now I’m actually really loving the airiness of it, I like that you can view the pieces from any angle. Oh and if you’re wondering what color we painted it, because you know white can be pretty tricky. We decided to go with our trim color that we used throughout the house, which is an old formula called C2 L2 by Benjamin Moore. I love this white.

Finally I have a place to display our wedding album and even my wedding shoes. I also ordered an acrylic display box to showcase them even more.

I just love this mercury glass decanter, another great piece I picked up at Home Goods.

I still plan to add some artwork to the top of it, as well as some bright turquoise foo dogs for a pop of color.

Hope you guys love it as much as I do. I’m really so happy about the end result, not to mention the price. Gotta love Craigslist!

I <3 window shopping

30 Sep

TGIF peeps!

I did some Home Goods window shopping last weekend.

How do you like to window shop? Do you always buy at least one item before you leave the store?

Normally I browse around the whole store looking at everything, taking pictures as I go so I don’t forget certain pieces I’m drawn too. Then I do another round, it seems like I always find new things during my second round. Is it like that for you too? It’s like I need a minute to let it all soak in.

My key for window shopping is NEVER grab a cart. I hate carts. I prefer to carry my items, it also gives me time to think about the purchase while I’m lugging it around the store. I think about where I would put it, is it worth the cost, do I have 10 other items similar to it. you know? The crucial things. haha

Here are some goodies I saw, but unfortunately I left empty handed. Sometimes I think it’s better to browse more than you buy, plus it’s nicer on the wallet too.

Have a great weekend!

Be My Guest

25 Jul

Hi All! It’s Monday, wow I wish it was Friday already. Hope you’re with me on that one.

I realized I forgot to share with you the little revamp I did on the guest bathroom.

I pulled this together the week before the Bridal Shower, because I knew I would be mortified if the guests used this bathroom in it’s existing condition.

Remember this…

Well after a couple of trips to the fabric store and Home Goods, I came up with a quick and easy solution to make this tiny bathroom have a little charm.

First thing I did was add this cute basket and displayed some lovely toilet paper. I know some people might not be into displaying their TP, but I think it works perfectly in such a small space with zero storage.

I was trying to think of ways to hide the ugly pipes under the sink and after a couple of hours of googling, I decided a sink skirt would work the best in such a short amount of time. Here is my take on it, not perfect but it did the trick!

Soooo… what do you think? Came out pretty cute huh? I really can’t wait to gut this bathroom and start fresh.

All it takes is one positive test for the husband to get busy on it…if you know what I mean.
