seeing white

10 Jun

It’s timmmmme!!

We are finally painting the kitchen and I couldn’t be more excited.

Yesterday we got started on removing all the cabinets and hardware.

Zoe has been teething big time so naps have been pretty non existent, luckily the husband took care of this task. Having done this a lot he was very thorough and organized. He labeled each cabinet and each hinge so we knew exactly where everything belongs.

As the doors came down I started scrubbing them to remove any grease or dirt so we wouldn’t have any problems with the paint adhering.

(I recommend doing this outside as Simple Green is some strong stuff!)

Wow! That was a lot of doors and drawers! 36 to be exact and I have to admit I cleaned about 6 and the husband did the rest. Man is he a work horse.

Here they are all loaded up and ready to be dropped off  to the shop to be sprayed.

At the end of the day this is what the kitchen looked like.

I was so eager to organize everything, now that it was all out in the open for everyone to see. Yikes!

Now if I could only decide on a paint color. Argh! Picking the perfect white is hard.

Originally I decided on Simply White by Benjamin Moore but now I’m second guessing it because I’m worried it might be too bright of white.

Don’t get me wrong I love a bright white but since we aren’t replacing our granite I wouldn’t want the bright white to accentuate the not so pretty granite.
So my other choice was White Dove, but in our kitchen under our lighting it seems a little yellow, almost a little dull. Eww not a fan.

Here is a sample of Simply White next to our granite and new wall color, which is actually just our living room color Revere Pewter 50% (I’m obsessed)

What do you think? You likey?

Any of you have a fabulous go to white? I’d love to hear them!

PS sorry for all iPhones photos, its just easier when toting around the babe.

the perfect mint paint

23 May

I’m on the hunt for the perfect mint paint.

I’ve actually already tried about 10 colors, with still no luck.

This is what I’m looking for

robins nest bm

The above color is actually Robins Nest by Ben Moore. But of course with lighting and camera settings it’s a beautiful mint color. Which I must have!

BTW I tried Robins Nest and it’s way too dark for the space and of course not mint.

This one is Spearmint Stick by Behr…pretty right? well the swatch is almost fluorescent green. Not exactly what the photo reads. But I still love this color and want it!

white antlers

23 Dec

Well, Christmas is right around the corner and to keep us all in the spirit I hung some frosty antlers up…I hope Santa will be proud.

You remember the ones I got from the antique faire.

I spray painted them a glossy white and mounted them onto a wood plaque that I found on eBay.

I decided to hang them above the TV to elongate the space, plus I really like how eye catching they are when you walk into the room.

Isn’t the living room coming along nicely. It’s one of my favorite places in the house.

Happy Holidays!

the bookcase reveal

9 Dec

Yep! That’s right! We finished the bookcase, you know the one I scored for $60 off craigslist.

it was pretty ugly but I saw past that and really liked the “parsons” feel it was giving off. It’s also extremely sturdy and quite heavy, which is great because I can’t stand flimsy particle board furniture.

So with a little paint love from the husband and a little decorating from me, I’m now pretty much obsessed with this baby.

I love that I finally have a place to display some of my books and knick knacks. I picked up this white frame from Home Goods recently and I filled my ikat bowl from Anthropologie with seashells we collected in Costa Rica on our honeymoon.

Drink time!

I picked up this decanter for my husband for all his hard work, he loves a good glass of scotch once in awhile.

IMG_8699

and of course you can’t have a manly drink of scotch without a sparkly gold glass to hold it in.

Adore.

IMG_8713

You might remember from the previous post that I had planned to add a dark gray back and possibly some O’verlays to the sides. But for now I’m actually really loving the airiness of it, I like that you can view the pieces from any angle. Oh and if you’re wondering what color we painted it, because you know white can be pretty tricky. We decided to go with our trim color that we used throughout the house, which is an old formula called C2 L2 by Benjamin Moore. I love this white.

Finally I have a place to display our wedding album and even my wedding shoes. I also ordered an acrylic display box to showcase them even more.

the view from our hallway mirror. love.

IMG_8729

I just love this mercury glass decanter, another great piece I picked up at Home Goods.

IMG_8716

I still plan to add some artwork to the top of it, as well as some bright turquoise foo dogs for a pop of color.

Hope you guys love it as much as I do. I’m really so happy about the end result, not to mention the price. Gotta love Craigslist!

Paint Colors

17 Nov

I wanted to let you all know about a great blog I stumbled upon called

Favorite Paint Colors

It’s a great resource for finding paint colors, because you get to see real pictures of them in living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms etc. You can even submit your own photo of your favorite paint color.

And they just put up our living room color today!

Speaking of paint colors, I’m really loving Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore for the back of the bookcase.

Stencil Wall Complete!

28 Sep

Yep! We did it!

We conquerd the kitchen with an amazing stencil by Royal Design Studios called Casablanca Trellis.

The whole process took us about 4 hours, thank god I had the husband there to help me, because I don’t think I could have done this alone. I envy all those who can!

Here’s how our little Saturday of painting went down

Many hours later we went from this…

to this!!!

And remember the sunburst mirror I DIY’ed, well I found the perfect place for it.

Don’t you think it compliments the wall perfectly?!

We chose a white satin paint, it’s actually the same color we painted all our interior trim. I love the sheen against the eggshell wall.

Hope you like it! I’m pretty much obsessed.

I’d love to see any walls you’ve stenciled. Were you pulling out your hair or were you loving every minute like us?

Update on Stencil Wall

23 Sep

Happy Friday!

Well unfortunately after much discussion the stenciling of the hallway is not going to happen and I did try!

But with the gorgeous plaster my husband slaved over and not to mention the uneven walls and 4 doorways it sadly was not in it’s future.

The good news is the kitchen nook has been chosen instead!

This space as always seemed plain to me, so I’m really looking forward to vamping it up.

Oh and here’s a picture of the stencil I chose

It’s called Casablanca Trellis by Royal Design Studios

Wish me (us) luck!
