what is yellow and tufted

my new ottoman of course.

picked up this tufted ottoman at Target out of all places, I had been looking for an ottoman to double as a coffee table after I found out I was preggers, so the new little babe wouldn’t have to deal with sharp corners.

I pretty much love it, just hard to get used to the yellow…and so much of it.

Unfortunately the colors they offer are pretty limited and pretty boring…black, brown, navy, lavender, and tan. WTF?

Loving the texture of the linen and it’s surprisingly very well made too.

The husband is very anti ottomans for coffee tables because he can’t eat or set his drink down, but so far he has been ok with using the tray. Crossing my fingers!

So, what do you think? Do you likey or think it’s way too much yellow?

I’m so torn!! Plus it doesn’t help that I’m a compulsive returner.

the bookcase project

So I finally found a bookcase.

As much as I wanted the one from Home Decorators, I just wasn’t going to be ok with spending over $400.

So I was pretty happy when I found this baby for $60 off craigslist.

It’s pretty butt ugly right now so I’m super excited to transform it.

I have so many great ideas for it.

1. Paint it a bright white. yummy.

2. Add a back and paint it a dark gray or yellow.

I’m pretty much obsessed with the contrast in the picture above.

3. Possibly add some detail to the sides. Like these fretwork panels from O’verlays

Area Rugs on Carpet

Would you say this is taboo? a big no-no in decorating?

Well, as I’ve never had formal training, I prefer to have no rules in decorating. I just go with the flow!

So when I took the PB moorish rug out of the living room, I wasn’t quite ready to part with it, so I moved it into our bedroom. I’ve never been a fan of rugs on carpet, but after googling a bit, I noticed I really liked the color & pattern it can bring to boring carpet.

This room is gorgeous, the chevron rug adds so much to this room.

Happy Yellow

So I’m not sure if I mentioned but I won the eBay rug I was bidding on! Yay!

I’m sure you are all familar with this rug because it was a huge hit when Pottery Barn launched it but also a huge outrage once they discontinued it. Damn you!

Well, I had been scouring eBay hoping to find it again and one lucky day I hit the jack pot!

Here it is in all it’s glory!

Don’t you think the yellow just pops! Every time I walk in the room now it just screams Happy Yellow!

Now the plan is to keep it clean, unfortunately my dogs are obsessed with area rugs and have already fallen in love with Miss Yellow. I had it professionally cleaned right when I got it, but I fear more cleaning will be needed in the future. If anyone has any good daily cleaning remedies for a wool rug, I’m all ears!

Pretty Front Doors

I want to paint my front door! Well more like, I want my husband to paint it.

You can’t really tell from the picture but right now it’s just a stained doug fir door and I’m kind of over it.

But first I need to remove the screen, but what do I do during those hot summers. ugh Any ideas??

I’m thinking either yellow, turquoise, or light blue.

Aren’t they gorgeous!

I want to update our door hardware as well, and add a vintage door knocker.

Exterior Evolution

When we first laid eyes on our little house in 2006, we knew it had huge potential and the best part was it was affordable. I know there are people that like a new remodeled house, but we were not one of them. We love a good challenge and really loved the idea of putting our love, sweat and tears into this house and so we did!!

Sorry for the poor photo, this is the only picture I could find of our house when we moved in. It’s a picture of the CD that we got from our Realtor, unfortunately there were no pictures on the CD, just documents.

Here is the peak above our garage being built, we also upgraded our garage doors and got a new roof.

Oh the joys of having a porta potty in your driveway.

After about a year of living in our little yellow house, we finally painted it! I love the colors we chose, classic gray with a hint of green, bright white trim and a light blue porch.
