the kitchen backsplash

19 Jan

Wow! Sorry for the very long Holiday break. We’ve been so busy over here with getting Christmas done, finishing up the backsplash, and taking a long over due vacation.

We spent 10 amazing days in Kauai with the whole fam and loved every minute of it.

I also finally took some photos of the completed backsplash. Which I’m still drooling over…

At the last minute I decided to go with the Antique White grout and I’m so glad I did. I really like how it pulls out the lighter color in the granite.

Don’t you just love how the light reflects off the tile.

Woo! So now that that’s done we move onto the next big project….

the guest bathroom!

I’m so excited to get started, I can’t even contain myself. Unfortunately with the play offs in my way, I might just have to wait until after the Super Bowl.

or butter up the husband with some extra foot massages.

Have a great rest of the week!

the bookcase reveal

9 Dec

Yep! That’s right! We finished the bookcase, you know the one I scored for $60 off craigslist.

photo(1)

it was pretty ugly but I saw past that and really liked the “parsons” feel it was giving off. It’s also extremely sturdy and quite heavy, which is great because I can’t stand flimsy particle board furniture.

So with a little paint love from the husband and a little decorating from me, I’m now pretty much obsessed with this baby.

I love that I finally have a place to display some of my books and knick knacks. I picked up this white frame from Home Goods recently and I filled my ikat bowl from Anthropologie with seashells we collected in Costa Rica on our honeymoon.

Drink time!

I picked up this decanter for my husband for all his hard work, he loves a good glass of scotch once in awhile.

IMG_8699

and of course you can’t have a manly drink of scotch without a sparkly gold glass to hold it in.

Adore.

You might remember from the previous post that I had planned to add a dark gray back and possibly some O’verlays to the sides. But for now I’m actually really loving the airiness of it, I like that you can view the pieces from any angle. Oh and if you’re wondering what color we painted it, because you know white can be pretty tricky. We decided to go with our trim color that we used throughout the house, which is an old formula called C2 L2 by Benjamin Moore. I love this white.

Finally I have a place to display our wedding album and even my wedding shoes. I also ordered an acrylic display box to showcase them even more.

the view from our hallway mirror. love.

I just love this mercury glass decanter, another great piece I picked up at Home Goods.

I still plan to add some artwork to the top of it, as well as some bright turquoise foo dogs for a pop of color.

Hope you guys love it as much as I do. I’m really so happy about the end result, not to mention the price. Gotta love Craigslist!

the bookcase project

11 Nov

So I finally found a bookcase.

As much as I wanted the one from Home Decorators, I just wasn’t going to be ok with spending over $400.

So I was pretty happy when I found this baby for $60 off craigslist.

It’s pretty butt ugly right now so I’m super excited to transform it.

I have so many great ideas for it.

1. Paint it a bright white. yummy.

2. Add a back and paint it a dark gray or yellow.

dark back

I’m pretty much obsessed with the contrast in the picture above.

3. Possibly add some detail to the sides. Like these fretwork panels from O’verlays

Guest Bathroom Inspiration

27 Oct

Not that I don’t already have enough going on, I started thinking about the guest bathroom. Which we plan to gut early next year.

I’m loving white and lots of it. I’m so drawn to all white bathrooms its ridiculous.

I would also love to throw some sparkle in there, along with some stripes.

I’m loving this shower

And of course I’ll definitely be adding a glamorous mirror.

Anyway, I really can’t wait to get started on the bathroom, and document the journey.

But first things first, the kitchen backsplash. I just got some samples from The Tile Shop, so hopefully one of them will be the winner!

bookshelf lust

24 Oct

Hi Peeps!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

I’ve been lusting over this bookshelf and have been thinking about it all weekend. I must have it.

Right now we have zero shelf space in our living room, so I have no area to display my books and décor pieces.

So like I said…I must have this.

time to convince Ryan.

You can’t really beat the $399 price tag over at Home Decorators.

Dining Tables

3 Oct

So I’ve been thinking about getting a new dining table, the one we have right now was a hand me down and even though it’s only 48” diameter it still feels too big for the space.

I really love the idea of a parsons table, because I love the clean modern lines against our antique chairs.

West Elm has one I absolutely love

Although it’s only 32” I was hoping for 36” and an option to expand. But it’s a beauty and on sale!

source

Another option would be the Bjursta from IKEA which is expandable.

Although it doesn’t come in white, which I think I could live with.

source

I found a cheap one at Wal-Mart too, who knew. (try to ignore the ugly chairs)

After being set on a square table I did come across this cute knock off tulip table from Ikea.

source

I’m really loving the moderness of it. It just feels so clean.

I’d love to hear what you think. I’m kind of notorious for not being able to make decisions, so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Black Doors

12 May

Now that we are door painting pros! (well actually my husband really is.)

I want to tackle our french door in the kitchen, the one we use to access the backyard.

Right now it looks like shit, I’m sorry it just does.

You can’t really tell from the photos but Sarge has once again decided to destroy a door and this one was his main target.

I was thinking a glossy black would look stunning, especially from the view outside.

White could be pretty too, but it seems like all you see these days are white french doors. I really like the boldness that comes with black, very chic.

I’m pretty sure it’ll look fabulous. What do you think? Have you painted any of your doors black?
